Dean is a frequent speaker at writing events around the world, including the La Jolla Writer’s Conference, the Mount Hermon Writer’s Conference, the Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College, the Society of American Travel Writers annual convention, and at various others. He has led writer’s workshops in India, Africa, Iceland and throughout the United States.
In 2010, Dean was asked to give the PLNU commencement address. It quickly turned unusual.
