In September I gave two talks to the Society of American Travel Writers in Reykjavik, Iceland, on the topic of Modern Writing in the Digital Age. The talks seemed to be well received, mostly because I focused on storytelling and the craft of good writing, the audience told me. A lot of the writers think they need to be experts in video editing, photography, social media and marketing. True, they need to know those things, but first and foremost, what will set them apart from the others is if they know how to write.
Oh yeah — and I got to hike on a glacier while I was there. It was my Walter Mitty moment.
